Lying at the centre of the South Island's beautiful west coast, sandwiched between the foothills of the Southern Alps and the Tasman Sea, Greymouth is the gateway to one of the most naturally stunning areas on earth, and a popular place for people to begin their holiday exploring New Zealand.
With a back drop of snow capped mountains and yet offering beaches that are warm enough to sunbathe on through the summer months, New Zealand's west coast offers the chance to experience a world of natural attractions along with some great hotels, and heart stopping outdoor experiences if you are feeling adventurous.
While Greymouth itself is not the largest or most exciting place in New Zealand, its location within driving distance of some of the country's best treasures is what draws in the visitors, and using the town as a base, you can visit the well-known areas of Punakaiki and Hokitika with their incredible sights.
Further away from Greymouth itself, you can visit the famous Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers, along with many small villages in the mountains that offer individual charms to visitors. One thing is for certain; if you are visiting Greymouth, make sure you take your camera, as no matter where you point it, you will see a sight that is worth capturing for posterity.
